so uh do we have any good DTs coming up in the pipeline?
There is no way we are going to have four scholarship kickers
Spence should probably become a professional in something other than sports.
We just signed 2 good DTs. We will sign more in the future. Not all DT signees will be ready made like Lawrence and Wilkins. Some will be more like Thompson, Williams, Reader, and Jarrett. In other words, badass.
We’re going to find out a lot about Bates coaching ability with these guys. Hobby and brooks turned nearly everyone into great players
I agree with this 100%. Brooks and Hobby recommended Bates, so there is that.
Must have missed that part. Knew he had been staffing our camps etc. before the hire
They both recommended him as a young up and comer to both Venables and Swinney. They liked him.
Given the current numbers and the great likelihood of fairly significant openings from early NFL entries and transfers, is it fair to say the coaching staff made a mistake in not targeting 20-22 as our number this recruiting cycle?
We’re only 5 commits away from 20. I can see us hitting that if the cards fall right.
It means that we would need 7 guys to leave/declare. And a lot of the candidates to do so are rising seniors, which could impact the ability to take a full class next year.
Let’s say seven of those guys leave. Our available scholarships in 2019 falls from 24 to 17. And of course, there will be further attrition next offseason. But if you give those scholarships to perhaps marginal prospects in this class instead of putting a handful of walkons on scholarship, you have to be slightly more selective next year.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I could also see some attrition at quarterback with Cooper and/or Johnson, and maybe a receiver and running back. And there often seems to be a surprising one like Pagano last year.
Agree that you can't take marginal guys. But it seemed our coaches were so locked into the very top tier of guys, such as on the offensive line, that we hardly even slow played the next tier guys.
Players who graduated yesterday but still have a year of eligibility left (candidates to declare/transfer/move on):
Taylor Hearn - GONE
Richard Yeargin (will have two years remaining)
No degree as far as I can tell: Mitch Hyatt, Austin Bryant, Clelin Ferrell, Van Smith, Deon Cain, RRMIII.
is Yeargin going for a 6th year from the NCAA? already redshirted in 2014.
I had totally forgotten about that. We’d have to prove that he redshirted initially due to an injury as well.
So he has one year of eligibility left, has his degree, and had the same neck injury Mike Williams had. I don’t know.....maybe he walks away.
Yeargin was telling people a couple months ago he planned to come back.
Do we need another LB in this class? We have the potential to lose Joseph, the Davis twins and Williams to early departure. I hope the rumors on Joseph leaving aren't true.
Hard to believe Milan is already to the point of possibly being done with the program. Getting old...
Why would he transfer? He gets carries with the champs and has zero shot as a pro
Prob wants to be rb1 somewhere
Hope he learns from Pagano and Bakers mistakes last year.
Would think people would be ok with him leaving to get more feaster and ETN
Thats one take, but I think him leaving would just make us thin. Nice to have 3 reliable backs.
I'd rather fuller leave. Choice has been pretty good.
I agree, choice has been pretty good this year.
Are you saying him leaving would be a poor.............choice?
I've been as vocal as anyone about the RB rotation, but I'd much rather keep Choice than Fuller as a backup option. Pretty excited about Dixon coming in, as I like hearing Jeff Scott compare him to Andre Ellington.
This is peak message boarding
Judah just tweeted about graduate school so those two will be back.
Of course they will. God Damn It!
The 84 number does not count Thomason or Cote.
I would expect them to be put back on scholarship if we are at 83 or under in August.
So potential transfer candidates
If Sterling Johnson transfers, we likely lose every senior and junior DL off the 2018 roster.
Hard to even look at the roster and put a starting DL lineup together for 2019. Thomas, Rudolph, Pinckney, Williams?
Wish we would've had Huggins redshirt his FR year.
Yeah the dl is going to take a huge hit in 19. It's why we need to make sure we land an instant impact guy at tackle in the 19 class. I figure we will of course
