Cade Stewart will be joining the team when freshmen report on June 19th. Brings the total back up to 85.

Means we've brought in 9 scholarship OL in the last two years, with three more committed this year and another one possible. Doesn't count guys like Penner or Tisch who walked on but could have gone I-AA on scholarship.

We'll have 34 true or RS freshmen on the roster this fall.

Updating the list of potential walk-ons who would receive a scholarship if we go back under 85:

    David Estes (SR, starting LS)
Sean Mac Lain (SR, backup WR)
Seth Ryan (JR, starting holder/3rd team WR)

I love this 'stat'. Every team has a large freshman/redshirt freshman class. "We are a really young team" isn't an excuse anymore unless we're talking starters.

The interesting thing is that for all the talk about a small class last year, we ended up enrolling 23 guys.

We'll do the same.this year. The numbers always work. Every big time football program inherently has a premier gtfo program as well.

Made a few posts on TI tonight that reminded me of this thread. Probably a good time to start looking at numbers again.

I will start by mentioning that we have 15 players who should be seniors this year. That's amazing to me, although it's probably only a little higher than normal. These guys should be in their final year of eligibility at Clemson:

    Patrick Destefano
    Ronald Geohaghan
    Chad Kelly
    Oliver Jones
    Martin Aiken
    T.J. Burrell
    Jay Jay McCullough
    Germone Dropper
    Jayron Kearse
    T.J. Green
    Travis Blanks
    Shaq Lawson
    Kevin Dodd
    Zac Brooks
    Mac Alexander

As it is, we officially have 8 scholarship seniors. Add Watson, Gallman, Scott, and Williams. I'm guessing Wiggins is done and Dunn is finished as well. That's 14.

We have 14 commitments right now, so that means that anyone else whom we accept a commitment from is literally an oversign. That said, I can see us taking as many as four more guys before it's all said and done. We've definitely got some transfer candidates on the roster.

Who do we think is likely to transfer?

Aside from coaches/former player sons (no way they transfer?), I would think maybe Shadell Bell, Dye and/or Choice, Noah Green.

Have heard Israel likes it here and won't transfer and who the hell knows what's going on with Fruhmorgen.

Kelly Bryant seems like a good transfer candidate as I assume it's too late to change positions

He's going to the season as our starter.
I probably agree with a lot that cooper beats him out and Johnson plays but this is Bryant's chance. If he doesn't win the job, then I could see it but not this year.

You're right. He'll probably not transfer until after spring. I was told that he's already had an eye on transferring, but it doesn't make sense unless he has the mentality that he can't win the job with a head start.

Why can't we sign 20 kids a year? We have 14 commits and next year set up for 12? I don't understand, are we giving every other walk on a scholly?

Alabama has 25 kids committed right now, almost double what we have. Pretty alarming we can't sign bigger classes.

I don't know if it's alarming, but it is strange some schools manage to sign 20-30 guys every year and we are always around 15-20.

Bama has 15 seniors vs our 8. 18 juniors, of which many will declare. They also have a history of pulling offers late and taking NQ.

It also makes us have to hit on a lot larger number of players and puts us behind the 8ball

Is nobody else concerned by this? I understand how much we've been winning, I totally get it. Seems we do handicap ourselves a lot though.
I still don't see how we can only have 8 seniors, that just means we signed too small of a class when they were here. I know some guys left from last years team, but still.

Do you guys want to process more players? This is the easy solution but it kinda shits on our family branding.

We get a lot of late career contributions from guys who would've been pushed out at other programs too. Not sure if that's a sustainable approach but as long as we keep mixing in stars with developed talent on both sides of the ball like we have been since 2011 I don't see why it can't work

I'm not really following what your argument is here. You're saying we don't process enough, but then complaining that we only have 8 seniors. Those two things are tied to each other...

Are you arguing for processing some of the 62 freshmen or sophomores so we can just load up on more freshmen this year?

The horse has been beat to death. But I'll say this, if we processed or didn't give out schollys to family members to maybe 5 players, out of those 5 that opened up, I bet at least 1 or 2 of them would have been good on special teams players last year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but special teams was a main reason we lost the nattie last year.

The idea that we don't process is a total myth. We've encouraged over 30 guys to move on to another program or graduate and not return over the last 5 years.

All of you know how I feel about this. I would love to have the scholarships of Davis, Davis, Greenlee, Trapp, and Dawkins to sign higher quality players in 2017/2018. I also agree that this has been discussed plenty before.

I would like to see how many kids we redshirt compared to Bama. With little to no science applied, I would imagine we are redshirting more, hence the abundance of Fr./So. On our roster.

Bama signed 24 this year. One was a juco, one didn't qualify, one was kicked off the team in July. So 21 true freshmen, 7 redshirted.

By contrast, we signed and enrolled 22 this year. Redshirted 10.
