Quite frankly the defense needs to play better than it has the past two years. Don't see us scoring 30+ again.

Cool, so for the second time when we've gone into the Playoff as #1 we get the harder matchup. OU was coming in pretty hot in '15 and we'd all have much rather played Michigan St.

I get the "optics" of having Bama sneak in at 4, but the committee should do more to reward the #1 seed than just have them play closest to home. Also, penalize Bama for not having a division/conference title by making them go to CA.

Bama is not a deep on the dl this year as they were last year. Payne still really good, but Davis takes plays off and Frazier is inconsistent. If we have a couple solid drives early in this game they will quit. Auburn had 46 plays in the first half against them and bama was never able to recover.

    Statistical analysis for the game:
    Defensive results against opponent's averages
    upload_2017-12-4_11-27-35.png

    Offensive results against opponent's averages
    upload_2017-12-4_11-28-25.png

edit: if you remove their two group of five opponents their defense isn't really changed, but their offensive production isn't as impressive. Also meant to mention that I didn't include Kent State, Mercer, or the Citadel.

Obviously they're the best team we've faced, on paper. We'll see if that's true... Auburn kicked their ass pretty handily (in Auburn). Their offense is the 2nd best we'll have faced, between L'ville and Auburn. Fortunately those are two offenses we smothered bigly.

Not surprisingly, we're the best team they've faced on paper, too. A little surprising is that we're also the best offense they've faced.

This part is scary. Alabama has been steamrolling their competition. They've turned in plus performances on offense and defense against almost everyone they've faced.
    Screen Shot 2017-12-04 at 3.14.04 PM.png

Definitely more impressive than our numbers (although we played better offenses).

    But their schedule was soft.
I don't think they're ready for what's about to hit them in the mouth.

Gameplan is simple. Let the defense control the line of scrimmage and force Hurts to be us with his arm. It's been proven that against teams with comparable talent, he can't or struggles with consistently doing it. We have to know where Ridley is as he is the one consistent threat in the passing game. It's imperative that Lawrence, Wilkins, Ferrell, Bryant, etc. control the line of scrimmage and this is a game where Tre Lamar needs to be healthy because his size and striking ability would be huge against their OL and RBs.

Offensively, take what you can with the run game and Bryant has to hit a few vertical throws to keep Bama honest. Otherwise, they'll continue to creep up and make the underneath throws harder or for little yardage. I think we'll be frustrated a good bit offensively, but this isn't the same Bama defense we've seen the past 2 seasons, no matter who they get back from injury.

Special teams need to continue with good kick coverages and consistent returns, while we pray the kicking game doesn't screw us.

I'm confident we won't run on them, so it's big for us that Bryant had a good game against Miami who stifled our running game.

Power 5 teams only: Statistically the best offenses they’ve faced is Ole Miss who is 11th in yards/play. The bad news is we are 45th. Miss St would be the second best offense they’ve played.

Ole Miss is pretty comparable to us in yards per game (462 vs 448)

They release more and more as we get closer to the game.

I've bought tons of natty stuff.

Edit: for example, they had 4 shirts total as of this am . . . now, they have 10 items total.

And Ole Miss didn't start playing well on offense until after the Alabama game. They only scored 16 vs Cal the week before. They had 23 vs Auburn in the following game, but only 3 when the game mattered.

Can Dexter Lawrence get healthy and back to last years form in a month?

Will a month get Kelly B fully healthy and back to the same explosion in running game? He’s gotta be a boss in the run game to have a chance...no fear or hesitation.

Really wish we still had Pagano.

Bryant has been awful running the ball since the injury. He's had zero explosiveness. Let's hope this month off helps.
