The problem is that after 5 movies, everything is basically where it was after 30 minutes of ANH except there isn't a sense of where things are going next

I liked the movie, however them resolving everything at the end was strange. There was no cliffhanger, no hint as to what could happen next.

Agree with you about 9. Not sure how the next movie can feel like a continuation after how neatly this ended.

One thing I didn’t care for is

The way the death of admiral akbhar was just glossed over. That thing was a fucking hero. IT’S A TRAP!

I don't think I'm an uber-nerd or anything, I don't own costumes and shit like that, but I do read all the SW books and watch the cartoons. I absolutely loved TLJ.
Whoever made the comment about Rian doing his own thing was absolutely right. JJ played TFA about as risk-averse as possible and Rian threw all of that out. I loved how he handled Luke "dying" and Rey's parents being nobodies. Calling this movie a "merch/ticket grab by Disney" is way too harsh. They killed off the most iconic hero of the entire series FFS. This movie took a lot of risks and new directions that TFA didn't. Akbhar dying inconsequentially sucked but I believe his voice actor died.

Leia finally using the force was long overdue but I do agree that scene was shot poorly and looked cheesy. Probably my only complaint with the whole movie.

The tracking through hyperspace is definitely a big problem because the entire series the rebellion has relied on getting in and getting out with that. I'm guessing they'll just develop some jammer or cloaking device to fix that. I thought it was gonna turn out that there was a spy or tracker on board that was sending their location to the First Order. Finn and Rose discovering that could have made their little quest a lot more meaningful too. I liked the casino planet though.

I'm fine with how it ended with no cliffhangers. I suspect that was because Rian didn't want to leave JJ to fuck up his story :haha: I definitely liked TFA, but I really wish Rian were doing episode 9 too. Regardless, the excitement to look forward to in 9 is the resistance getting built back up and more jedis being trained. What happens to Leia? Are they actually gonna have Rey kill Kylo? Will Poe impregnate half the galaxy? There's a lot to look forward to.

I've continued to reflect. I have decided that I like VIII despite its cheesy moments, but VII is better.

I take pride knowing, I grew up with the best Star Wars trilogy. VII and VIII are better than I-III, but don’t hold a candle to the original 3.

Has there ever been a Star Wars without cheesy moments? That’s part of its charm.

It’s not part of a trilogy but Rogue One is at least better than VI. Maybe IV too.

No but Johnson went way, way overboard with all the cheap comedy. The dumb shit with hux and Poe was the worst. Thought it was just Disney being Disney, but there isn’t nearly as much of that stuff in intense moments in TFA or RO

It’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I’m about 80% sure Poe does the same thing when he meets Kylo in TFA

Yeah it was one line. Not some long drawn out cringey joke.

I really like the story in the movie, all the cheap comedy was unnecessary.
