Yeah, this great rebuild he’s putting together is really only from a one year dip. The year before they were 7-6, which is who they are.

Here's the fun part. South Carolina's 17 points came when the score was 42-0, 34-0, and 34-3.

Miami's 3 points came when the score was 38-0.

Is Roper actually the problem? Me thinks it’s more of a lack of talented personnel than anything else.

JC what would your honest take on a Lashlee hire be? He's been underwhelming at UConn (granted a tough place to win) but was he not also run off from Auburn?

He was at UCONN for just this season and it wasn’t underwhelming. They were the worst offense in the country in 2016, have little talent or depth and moved the ball well this year

Tons of different, conflicting opinions on what happened at Auburn, but when the Tigers had a quarterback, it’s funny that Malzahn got all the credit but when things went bad, it was all on Lashlee.

I like the system. I’m always going to be a little hesitant about the guy that worked for the guy, but his year at UConn was very good all things considered.

I don’t know what will happen, though.

      Again... optics
Why deal with another well he coulda woulda shoulda done a good job but this that and the other and so forth is why it wasn’t a fit there.
Uconn had a pretty crappy offense against competition this year. A lot like us.

I don’t know that optics are the issue with Lashlee when you consider he was the OC for a team that played for a National Title in 2013 and won the Broyles Award at season.

The issue would be in-game. He got a lot of credit when he took over the play calling in 2016 for Auburn and they started going up and down the field and won six straight...then they had some injuries, stalled and he left and went to UCONN.

I love the system for what the Gamecocks have personnel-wise and it’s nothing like Roper’s. But I’m a little torn.

There isn’t a nickels bit of difference between what Lashlee has done and what Kendal Briles has done, though. One just has the last name Briles.

    Interesting fact:

If SCar wins their bowl game, this will be their 7th season of 9 or more wins in school history....which started in 1892.

For comparison, this is Clemson's 7th season of 9 or more wins....this decade.

If you take it to 10 years ago, so 2007, it's our 9th of 9+. I guess that's really 11 seasons, but still. 8 under Dabo.

I think it's a Muschamp issue. He's a defensive guy who hasn't accepted what it takes to win in this era. Every one of his offenses have been slow and out dated. Going to Briles or Freeze or etc would be a major shift in philosophy, but I still wouldn't believe this shift until I saw it over the course of an entire season.

Two names I was told to keep an eye on as potential replacements for Roper are Ole Miss offensive coordinator Phil Longo and former Ole Miss offensive coordinator Dan Werner. Longo has been in Oxford for one season after being tabbed to replace Werner, who is currently an offensive analyst at Alabama. Werner spent five seasons at Ole Miss, and I am told he is very well liked by the staff at Alabama. You can read more about his accomplishments here:

And let's not forget Lashlee was the guy who offered John Franklin III as a QB.

Really, I don't see how any of these options won't be a good thing.

So they try to be respectful and give him time to find another job. When he can’t find a job they just fire him hahahahaha. What a shitty program.

    So Muschamp ruined him.

No one is gonna give him credit for what he did at Duke because of Cutcliffe. He's only worked with Champ elsewhere and sucked.

    Muschamp, not even once.

What are the chances that Ropers offense is not that bad, but Bently is not executing it very well. How much is Bentley. How much is Roper? If you get a new OC does it turn into a open four way competition at QB?

      Zero.
      No.

Does Muschamp's continuing failure to hire a good OC have a negative impact on actually landing a good one in the future? What I mean is that with Muschamp, the national storyline has been that his teams never have good offenses for one reason or another. Roper is the 3rd(?) OC he's had to fire in 6 years as a HC and his offenses have consistently been near the bottom of the SEC (and CFB in general)... at what point do well-respected OC candidates start wondering if Muschamp himself is somehow the common denominator here and that maybe he (his system/coaching style) really IS the reason offenses can't flourish under him?

    It shouldn't.

Really throwing all in that Roper was the only issue and Bentley and Muschamp are not an issue. It will be interesting to see how this works next year when their offense is about the same.

I remember when Muschamp hired pease and his offense looked exactly the same. Then fired pease and hired roper and his offense was exactly the same. Then hired roper at scar and his offense was exactly the same. I’m thinking it may not all be the OC fault

Can't wait to hear Muschamp say the exact same thing he said 2 years ago when he says he's learned what it takes to run a successful offense.
