    Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, whose unit helped lead the No. 3 Bulldogs to their first SEC championship since 2005 and their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, is scheduled to interview with Tennessee athletics director Phillip Fulmer for a second time in New York on Tuesday, sources told ESPN.

    Sorry Cocks, he's yours to keep

    ++++

    Sources: Rice is finalizing the hire of Stanford offensive coordinator Mike Bloomgren as coach. Yahoo! Sports first reported the decision. Bloomgren has spent the last seven seasons with Stanford, working primarily with the offensive line. South Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper also was a strong candidate here.

    Football Scoop ... says in earlier post Venables spoke with Currie last week. Fulmer focused on these now:

    +++

    Tuesday update> Source tells FootballScoop Fulmer is set to meet with Mel Tucker today in NYC. We understand this will be Tucker’s second talk with the Tennessee search. Kevin Steele remains a candidate and Chad Morris has visited with Fulmer as well (after already having visited with Currie). All of the above is per sources and we continue to hear that while in New York Fulmer is keeping his options open with regards to other potential candidates. We also though continue to hear Fulmer would like to have his man decided by the end of the day. Will update as more is clear.

    So UCF will still be a ton of fun to watch next year on offense. And UCF also hired Shannon as the DC

    AD (or no AD) in my opinion UCF has the best resources, location, etc to succeed in football.

    I would put them easily #1 in my G5 Long-Term Power Rankings regardless of AD.

    LW brought up an interesting point, when SMU was after Chad Morris, Houston got involved late. At the time, Morris decided he was so far into discussions with SMU and it seemed like a better fit so he didn’t entertain Houston much.

    Houston’s A/D at the time was Yurachek, now Arky’s A/D. Apparently Jerry Jones is pushing for Morris too.

    Here’s what I gather from 247:

    Arkansas is down to Chad and BV. Chad seems to be more likely. I personally think Chad would take Tenn over Ark, leaving Ark with BV; however....

    Tennessee appears to be focused on Mel Tucker and Kevin Steele. These are the only two the Tenn 247 guy has been able to confirm as getting second interviews.

    Disclaimer: the Arkansas 247 guy doesn’t appear to be very connected.

    By the way, I get the sense Fulmer would hire himself as HC if he could. So I think he’ll likely go with someone he can push around.

    Dear god

    Otis Kirk said... (original post)

    This is hard to believe but I am hearing Venables will be his DC. That is coming from a source I have who is connected to Morris. I told someone today on a post no way Venables comes here as DC. Wow if this is true.
