    Bye bye Josh Norman. :panth2:

Panthers rescind franchise tag on him after a long-term deal could not be reached with his agent. He is immediately an unrestricted free agent.

I didn't realize he was almost 30. I guess it makes a little bit of sense - but why not keep the franchise tag on him and let him walk?

Speculation but I think they thought that he would become a cancer. He was already talking about holding out and being a distraction.

Lots of reports by vets that have moved around like Jared Allen that the Panthers locker room is A+ atmosphere. Assume they don't want to mess that up.

This is what I assumed when I saw the news.

I'm all for not giving him the long term deal he wanted, but not keeping him for 1 year under franchise tag seems retarded. He must have really been being an asshole.

I was always a fan of tagging him and cutting bait next year when they need the space to resign Short/Star.

If he was going to be an issue though then just let him go and hopefully we can make a decent signing to get another CB in FA that is at least decent and can excel in zone.

I like Norman a lot. You could tell he was gutted when the Panthers lost the SB. He also seems like a guy that might coast after signing a big deal.

Don't want a repeat of the julius peppers fiasco, I'm OK with avoiding that if it means we may make a move in the draft for a star rookie corner

FUCK NO!!! You don't cut one cancer who you know can play only to draft perhaps a bigger cancer that you don't know yet can be as good on the field. I am not even a big Panthers fan, but no team wants to have that element in the locker room.

I have completely turned on Alexander. He and Kearse can both go fuck themselves.

If this is true then Styx is right...you don't replace one cancer with another one.

Edit: Now I don't know that this stuff is true. Could just be intentional rumors for the benefit of teams further dn the draft.

I'm not buying Mack being a cancer. We all heard he was super intense to the point that he came off weird or anti-social. So maybe he's not a big team guy, but that doesn't make him a cancer.

Sorry @Styx, but completely turning on one of our best CBs ever because of what some draft guy I've never heard of said is asinine.

A few things have led me to it. The biggest being that I don't think he was injured to the point of not playing in the Natty and that was just a selfish move on his part to protect his draft status. That in and of itself is enough for me to say "fuck him." Then on top of that is this type of reporting. This guy isn't saying this as an opinion or something out of the blue. He is simply repeating what he has heard in and around the program. Plus, the coaching staff have hinted at problems in that meeting room last year that have Alexander and Kearse written all over it.

If he wasn't hurt then the dude needs to go into acting, football be damned. I was sitting 8 rows behind the training table and it was apparent that he was hurt. He may be a pain in the ass and a problem in the lockerroom, but I would be shocked if he was faking an injury.

The guy was either the #1 or #2 player on our defense last year. Dabo and co. used to joke about how the first place he would go to after a game was the film room. I have zero doubt Mack worked his ass off and played to the best of his abilities.

Now maybe his motivation was for himself (and his family) instead of Clemson, but it's silly to hate him for that. To lump him in with Kearse is just ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kearse won't be showing his face around our University ever again. I can't remember if it was someone on here who said this or not, but supposedly Coach Reed stated there were several cancers in the meeting rooms within the secondary. You have to think Kearse was one. However, I gained a lot of respect for Green by him coming back for the spring game in the midst of all of his pre-draft workouts. Mack is just a weird dude, so who knows about him.

I wouldn't go as far to say I wouldn't draft Mac, but their we're not some negative locker room guy comments on here coming out about him so the article isn't out of left field and only lends further credibility to the earlier rumors.

Norman wasn't a cancer during his Panther career either. I think you could speculate that the Panthers were worried about him turning into one on a franchise tag. I think he will be a good player for the team that signs him, but not worth what he wants.

I don't think Mac was a problem but he just wasn't a leader. He was so focused on his own game and didn't bring others with him. That's fine as long as you have other leaders in the locker room. Unfortunately we lacked other people to pick up the slack.

So let's discuss our offense this year. The usual suspects return but i think we can be really fucking good in the passing game. Funchess supposedly has been balling out in OTA's (Panthers SnapChat is great by the way), Hill was having a great training camp last year before the injury. We all know about KB and what he can do. Throw in Philly, Tulsa, Byrd :gross:, Ginn and Cotchery we might have us a stew going on offense, because we are going to need it with how young the secondary is going to be.

Hopefully we are firming up the Ol some, but we should be in good shape on offense. Hopefully the dl and lbs are still good enough to make up for some deficiencies in the secondary
