I liked the previous version on RCUSA - lets keep it going.

Thinking about getting a bottle of whiskey this weekend, probably going to drop a bit more than my normal budget amount. Anyone have any suggestions in the $50-80 range?

Also - if anyone here is into bourbon barrel aged beer, try and track down a Stone Wootstout. That shit is pretty fucking delicious.

Bout to hit the bar at Husk and get a cheeseburger and some whiskey. Will report back on what I try.

Also, Stranahan's Diamond Peak and Whistle Pig 10 Yr Rye are two excellent $70 bottles.

:atroyandabed: will look for those tomorrow.
Jealous of the Heady Topper.. how does the Eagle Rare compare to some of the others in that price range? Never seen it until recently, thinking about grabbing a bottle of that when I start to stock up my whiskey for football season.

Eagle Rare falls into the same category as Larceny and a few others, meaning, it's a bottle from a major distillery (BT in this case) that's been around for awhile, but people are just now discovering it. Really nice 10 year at $30-35 on the shelf, that drinks like a $40-50 whiskey, IMO. Always have it on my shelf. Was at the weapon station package store today with pops, and it's $24.99 with no tax. Grabbed a Bulliet Rye there for $30ish, I think.

I have enjoyed it the few times I've had it so far. I also picked up some Bulleit Rye today as well for Old Fashioneds.

I would def grab a bottle if you are able. I think my bottle was $32.

Woodford, Elijah Craig 12 (18 if you can find it), Eagle Rare, Blantons, or Four Roses are all great choices

Taking my last two Heady Toppers to the beach tomorrow. Hadn't had it in a couple years and tried it again last week--was far less impressed this time around. I'm not nearly the beer nerd I was when hanging out with U Jelly in years past. Still a damn fine beer, it's just that my overall opinion of beer has dropped.

I wanted to share something with yall. A few years back, one of my hs friends decided he was going to resurrect his family's 130 year old distillery in Kansas City. The brand is called J. Reiger Whiskey. What makes it unique is they blend it with Spanish Sherry, which gives it a unique flavor. I've tried it a few times and it's not too bad. I doubt they distribute in SC, so I attached a link below where you can buy it. Let me know what you think!

    So far:

A bourbon called Blood Oath: delicious
15 year old bourbon called I. W. Harper: decent, not as good as the Blood Oath
Whistle Pig Old World: fucking delicious, like anything else those guys bottle (they actually just started distilling, too, but we're obviously a decade away from their own stuff)
Michter's Barrel Strength Rye: possibly the best so far, whole bunch of caramel; Michter's is controversial in how they market the stuff they bottle (from other distillers), but goddammit,
the stuff they put in bottles is knockout good. I can't quit them.

Big fan of Michters. I've been corralling 5 year olds at a tag sale for youth hockey all afternoon, so I'm about 5 fingers deep into some Willetts right now

Same here. Was at a company party tonight and bounced between Woodford Reserve and what had previously been a favorite IPA. Really was no comparison.

Also, big fan of the Michter's Rye, and had some Angel's Envy while in California last week. Really, really good stuff.

If in Charlotte stop by Noda Brewing. I am a huge fan of their Hop Drop and Roll IPA. In Sylva, NC check out Innovation Brewing. They are still growing and produce some quality beers.

Haven't been to Noda, but I stopped in Heist brewery for dinner one night. Okay beer, but some pretty good food. Then, of course, had to make a drunk stop at Amelie's

Did they still have the shrimp with wasabi cotton candy? I didn't get to try it, but it piqued my interest.

I also had some sort of red wine and whiskey cocktail that I remember being pretty great.

I don't see it on their online menu, but a quick google found some articles that mention it, so I know they had it. Here's the blurb about it:
"An example: the Himalayan Shrimp Stix ($16) are spicy, shrimp skewers served cold, wrapped in clouds of lemon-wasabi cotton candy, and then brought to the table spiked into a block of solid granite."

And I made a mistake; they were pork belly corn dogs, not egg rolls.

Tried a bottle of Bib and Tucker bourbon for the first time. About $50/bottle. Worth it. Pretty good stuff. Same distillery that bottles my favorite rum (I am not a rum fan). Their rum is Called Kirk & Sweeney and its aged on oak barrels. Damn good - I actually bought it while severely polluted and thought it was whiskey. Very good over rocks.
