Auburn's DL and front 7 > Miami's IMO. You don't hold Chubb and Michel to 48 yards without a great DL.

This is the key IMO. Miami hasn't exactly been blowing teams away this season outside of Duke and Notre Dame.

    Miami in conference play:

    @ Duke, 31-6
    @ FSU, 24-20
    vs GT, 25-24
    vs Cuse, 27-19
    @ UNC, 24-19
    vs VT, 28-10

Miami's offense is limited with Rozier under center, who has a tendency to make mistakes when pressured. However, when the D is forcing TO's and giving the offense short fields to work with, they are obviously effective. Starting field position on their 4 TO's vs Notre Dame (and result):

    - ND 29 (TD)
    - ND 7 (TD)
    - Pick 6 (TD)
    - ND 42 (TD)

Miami's 8 possessions not following ND turn overs (starting field position: plays, yards, result):

    1st half
    - Miami 11: 5 plays, 23 yards, punt
    - Miami 42: 8 plays, 58 yards, TD
    - Miami 46: 9 plays, 48 yards, FG
    - Miami 36: 3 plays, 6 yards, punt
    - Miami 34: 4 plays, 26 yards, punt

    2nd half
    - Miami 10: 9 plays, 90 yards, TD
    - Miami 30: 5 plays, 17 yards, punt
    - Miami 22: 9 plays, 53 yards, missed FG

When Notre Dame was not turning the ball over, Miami started with 8 drives inside of their own territory and managed 3 drives of 50 yards or more and 17 points.

This game comes down to 2 things IMO - getting healthy and not turning the ball the over. Those two things happen and we win and cover -5.

Good write up. To me those stats show two things:
    1. Miami beat ND because they were better
    2. Miami blew ND out because ND self destructed

Did this in another thread with scar. Here is same comparison of Miami and Clemson schedules, based on FEI and S&P metrics.

Miami will be a really stiff test for us. They compare favorably to Auburn but not as good on defense, which is about what I'd have expected. Surprisingly, VT has the better rated defense.

    Screen Shot 2017-11-14 at 7.35.18 AM.png
We should be the best team they've played. They've played some other good defenses in ND and VT (top 20), but ours is a different animal... IF we are healthy.

My takeaway is that Miami probably isn't as good as their record, and I'm glad we're not playing them in their stadium. Both teams are battle tested, but they were fortunate to draw both VT and ND at home. They'll be in a de facto road game in Charlotte and I like the fact that FSU took them to the wire in the only challenging road environment Miami has faced. Their QB was <50% and they were outgained by FSU (406-337, 22-20 first downs, 203-83 rush yds).

Notre Dame turnovers were just unforced errors.

Finley went 15 for 15 on those type of throws against us to start the NCSU game and Wimbush had 2 interceptions to open guys on less than 10 yard patterns that were intercepted by players covering other receivers the throws were so poor. Then Wimbush got pulled and the other QB just threw a pick-six right to a player cutting underneath a short route.

Wimbush also missed a wide open man for a TD on an early ND drive that could have helped take the crowd out the game.

You make that many mistakes like that and you are not winning against many teams.

Enjoyed looking at all these computer metrics, so I pulled the other ones I'm familiar with. Also, I realized FEI isn't up-to-date (last updated 11/4/17) so I threw it out for now.

Anyone know what channel the game will be on? Apparently Delta streams live TV on certain flights (Sat TV is on all of the 76Q/753/75S/75H/739/738/and 73Ws)...if it's on ESPN and you're on one of these flights you should be able to watch the game live.

Yes, but the SEC championship is on at the same time. I was thinking they'd put SEC on ABC?

The championship phase really opens the playbook as we've seen the last decade or so.

Delta doesnt stream ABC on flights I've be on. Only CBS and NBC.

Gogo wifi isn't fast enough to stream video unless you are on a fairly new plane. If you are on a new plane equipped with the fancy wifi antenna's you can stream it.. FYI, i flew from atlanta to Los Angelos and drew a shitty plane and could not watch the Clemson/Louisville game b/c it was on abc and internet sucked. However, my flight back had the hi-speed wifi and I could stream just fine.(no games to watch though).

ESPN is included in the Delta TV, but I doubt our game will be on ESPN.

If Miami wins out, the worst we could do is the Orange Bowl correct?

That's my understanding. Assuming both Clemson/Miami win out regular season, we then lose the ACC, Miami to CFP and we'd take the ACC spot in Orange.

One other scenario I saw is if Clemson beats Miami in ACC in a very close, tough game, would the CFP take a 1 loss Miami (who's only loss was close loss to #2) therefore letting NCST take the Orange. Can you imagine the hate if the ACC took 2 CFP spots AND the Orange Bowl?

That's terrible, but I have a logistical question regarding the Turnover Chain: who gets it? The guy who causes the fumble, or the guy who recovers it?

But probably the guy who recovers the ball.

I’m looking at ESPN’s projections and both pickers have Miami in the CFP. Do these people not learn anything?

I was disappointed initially with our ranking, as it might take away motivation. Now I realize how much our coaching staff will get from all the outrage.

We'd have a decent windfall with 2 teams in the CFP. I think we'd have enough to have our travel expenses covered with the extra money.
