On the topic of Trevor Lawrence, if you had to pick a reason why he wouldn’t be ready quickly, which one of these would be the reason?
1) Natural physical talent (clearly not)
2) Physical development
3) Familiarity with the playbook
4) Adjusting to the college game/gelling with offense
5) “It” factor (probably won’t change from whatever it is already)
Some of y’all have way more familiarity with him, but it sounds like #4 will be less of an issue for him than other freshman and #1 might be so significant that it eclipses #2.
Assuming that if he’s strong enough in all of these categories, the coaches would actually start him, which of these could be his limiting factor 8 months from now?
None of the above
3 and 4. Those are what the coaches will cite when they get asked every press conference about Lawrence.
I would say probably 4 will be a bit of an adjustment if there is one. Game moves a lot faster at the college level, defenses shifting coverages post-snap. Ball security didn’t look great at the Army AA game (fumbles more than interceptions) and some of his passes were off due to not being familiar with his receivers. DW4 seemed to have better chemistry with Artavis than, say, Mike Williams early in his career because they came in together and threw on the side.
Is this tweet implying something beyond Zion committing and the Power Rangers potentially suiting back up for another year?
I talked to a guy at the gym today who's son play with Wilkins in HS. Apparently everyone around here thinks he's going back to school, including extended family
Hyatt coming back is awesome!
Hyatt returning is big for the OL next season because it provides an anchor for the left side/blind side of the OL. He's a very good college player and this will be a money year for him, so I'd expect a different level of play from him. If Wilkins, Bryant and Ferrell return, there has to be a level of anger/determination to erase the narrative that has been thrown on Clemson since the Sugar Bowl. The talk all offseason will be about Bama and Tua as well as UGA. Clemson will be flying under the radar as an underdog again and we all know what happens when that's the case. Dabo may have a very easy offseason from a motivational stand point.
Clemson will probably be picked to win the ACC, but the Sugar Bowl performance should provide a large enough chip.
We're going to have great leadership at almost every position on both sides of the ball.
6) not getting enough snaps to prove himself
We know the rumors are flying round about Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant so we wanted to pass along the latest on the situation. We have been tracking this all week but there just hasn't been enough confirmed information to put much out there yet.
We can tell you that as of earlier this morning that the three had not made their final decisions yet.
According to our sources Ferrell has sent out the most signals about a return for another season with the Tigers.
All three are very close as you know so there has been talk about all of them returning to "finish the right way."
Several sources have told us over the past two weeks that Wilkins has told them that he plans to leave. We still think he is the most likely not to return but since he hasn't announced a final decision that could change.
The more likely scenario is that Ferrell and possibly Bryant decide to return.
Obviously, the staff had planned on some attrition here and had brought in the best DE class ever for Clemson. If Ferrell and Bryant do return the depth at talent at DE will be incredible and the path back to another national championship will be much easier.
We will continue to monitor this and pass along more as we have more confirmed information.
I'd be more than happy w this. Two out of the three would be a huge victory.
Even only returning Ferrell would be bigly.
This has been known for some time. This is not something we are tracking. No sir. - Ard
If Ard got dividends for correct projections on players returning the juice would be worth the squeeze.
Did you say dividends?
Coca-Cola has raised its dividend for 9 consecutive years.
Currently in New Jersey for the annual Johnson and Johnson shareholder meeting guys
I want you all to remember this. I would bet Dabo refers to this very stat at some point this Spring.
How is that possible
Probably because there were a couple of missed throws over a 2 game stretch so people kept saying he was bad at it all season.
He missed more than a couple over a two game stretch. But sure.
He also just didn't throw that many balls and held on to it or they were supposed to be deep balls but they didn't travel far enough and hung up so they were intermediate throws when they were supposed to be deep. IDK.
Down year for qbs in the acc because it’s hard to believe that can be the best
Gotta think that will improve throwing to someone like Higgins rather than Cain
So did Dabo meet with the juniors today? Announcement expected tomorrow?
Maybe I’m missing something and I’m all for loving Higgins and I hope he goes down as one of the all time great but what exactly has he done to inspire such confidence besides be extremely talented/show potential?
Next big thing. Same posts were made about Cain last offseason
That’s what I fear because I do remember those post last from last year.
Keep in mind that Sammy is the only member of WRU who really showed out on a massive level as a true freshman. I think many of us were hoping for flashes of that based on the hype from even our own coaches with regard to Tee, but nobody has freshman campaigns like Sammy except Sammy.
